Patients Recognized at World Triathlon Championship Grand Final for Winning Essays
Why do I Tri?
Recently, two of our patients attended the event of a lifetime—the World Triathlon Championship Grand Final, held in the U.S. for the first time in a decade! Patients Paul and Madison entered an essay contest held by Dare 2 Tri Paratriathlon Club in which they were asked to explain what motivates them to try in their daily lives. As a reward, they were asked to attend a VIP event at the World Triathlon with their families, hosted by Dare 2 Tri and BP. Madison, who has spina bifida, was recognized as a finalist, while Paul, who has cerebral palsy and is visually impaired, won the grand prize: a customized adaptive bicycle! Paul’s physical therapist, Mary Kate, helped him write his essay, which you can read here.
Paul, 12, was beside himself with excitement. He said he planned to ride his bike with his younger sister, Megan. “I am very happy,” Paul said. Congratulations on your achievement, Paul! Your La Rabida family is so proud of you.
