Each year, La Rabida hosts an array of continuing education programs for health care professionals, special events to raise money for hospital operations and facility enhancements, and programs for patients and families.

CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMS

October 18: Managing Diabetes in the School Setting
Continue nursing education with activity approved by the Illinois Nurses Association, accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.  Diabetes specialists will be available to answer your questions and provide practical solutions to your most challenging diabetes problems. Totals 4.3 contact hours.
 
All school personnel are invited to attend.  Please extend this invitation to:

The seminar was designed to increase preparation  and awareness of special needs pertaining to diabetes students. 

Topics to include:
 
  • Diabetes Type 1 and 2
  • Meal plans
  • Psychosocial issues
  • Insulin pump therapy
  • New technologies in pediatric diabetes management

July 22th - 6th Annual “Lace & Pearls” Lawn Fete
Hosted by: La Rabida Children's Hospital
 
Notes of classical music wafting through the summer air will create an enchanting background as supporters gather for an evening of outdoor elegance to include dining, dancing, and performances by Chicago's very own children.  Sure to delight, the evening will unfold on La Rabida’s scenic lakeside playground from 6 to 9 p.m.  Tickets are $75 per person; a ten-person table is $725.  Read more...

July 2010: Car Seat Safety Clinics
80% of children riding in safety seats are not buckled in correctly.  Help prevent injury by having your child's car seat inspected.  Caregivers and families to La Rabida patients are invited to participate.

July 21:  Introduction to the Pump
Learn the basics of pumping, including information on basal and bolus insulin, requirements tand responsibilities when on the pump, the pump start process at La Rabida, as well as the specific features of the Animas, Omnipod, and Medtronic pumps.  Families will be able to handle the pumps and infusion sets and will have access to brochures.

Held in the hospital library, attendance at this class is required before a child or teen can begin the pump at La Rabida.  Please call 800.770.2232 to be scheduled for this class.  


July 28: Growing up and Moving on - Program for Teens 16 and up
This program focuses on providing support and education to the population of Diabetes patients age 16 years and older and their families, as they face transitions of college, life on their own, working in the outside world, and finding appropriate medical care away from the hospital.
