Outpatient Center Welcomes Guests
We recently christened the new Outpatient Center before 130 supporters, elected officials, staff and other friends. The breakfast event featured remarks by President and CEO Brenda Wolf, Trustee Cedric Shaw, Deputy Governor Cristal Thomas, IL Sen. Kwame Raoul and Alderman Leslie A. Hairston.
Longtime supporters such as Jackson Park Advisory Council President Louise McCurry, along with Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon and Congresswoman Robin Kelly, also stopped by to see the new space.
The theme of the grand opening was “The Many Facets of Success: Our Patients – Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.” Life-size cut-outs of past and present patients were placed all around the new facility. Each held a card that detailed when and why they were patients at La Rabida and what they are doing now.
Three-year-old patient Mateo was surprised by a still version of himself as he walked in the door while daughter Sharlene Hobson and father Charlie Brown (formerly of the Chicago Bears), posed with their cut-outs when they hopped off the elevator.
The event concluded with patient Lauryn "christening" the decorative sailboat in the middle of the outpatient waiting area. The crowd had just watched a video tour featuring Lauryn and were surprised when she made a “star entrance.”
