The Partnership Strategy Extends La Rabida's Reach
The new partnership between Chicago's only two freestanding children's hospitals marks La Rabida's commitment to advancing its strategy to partner with leading medical institutions, deepening its onsite resources and expanding its outreach to children with special needs.

The agreement with Children's Memorial, signed in March , brings Children's Memorial physicians to La Rabida's five-bed urgent care unit and the institution's new hospitalist program.  The hospitalists are pediatricians who will care for La Rabida's hospitalized patients, complementing the role of the patient's primary care physician.

Augmenting the University of Chicago Partnership
La Rabida also has a longstanding partnership with the University of Chicago Medical Center.  Increasingly, hospitals are focusing on their core services.  Working together, La Rabida and its partner hospitals can provide the continuum of services children with special needs require, making sure children receive the best care from the best provider at the right time. La Rabida's core services are focused on children with chronic illness and developmental disabilities and those requiring medical management of medically complex conditions.  As a transitional care expert, La Rabida works with childrenwho have “graduated” from an intensive care setting at another hospital but are not yet ready to return home.  They may require developmental therapy, rehabilitation, nutritional management or other services to promote readiness for at-home care.

In particular, La Rabida specializes in the medical management of children with technology dependencies and invests in the resources to train and educate parents on how to care for their children at home.

The partnerships enable La Rabida to expand its wealth of resources for a patient population who require a broad and deep range of services. Because of La Rabida's resources, children with special needs receive a beyond-medicine approach to their care and support.

The partnerships allow knowledge transfer across institutions and expanded options for parents of children with special needs.  The alliances also allow the hospital to attract the best talent for its population and those whose passion is caring for special kids with special needs.
